Don't we all wish that every project we undertook went just perfectly? Sometimes when I machine a BO staff, or a bokken, and get ready to sand it , there may be a place that a splinter got pulled out. Very small splinters etc, can easily be sanded out, but larger ones have to be "reshaped". Or perhaps there ends up being a small crack visible on the end of the handle. A bostaff may be just a bit less than straight. Or a worm hole might be a bit bigger than a pencil lead. In any case they are not firsts, but usable.
The weapon is still very usable, and will be just as strong as a "first", but I do not send these out as firsts. I set these aside when I find them, and when I get time, I reshape them, and set them aside again. From time to time if the defect is bad enough I cut off the defect, and make a wakizashi sized weapon, or junior bokken from the remainder of the usable piece. Trying not to waste material, and still make a Safe and usable weapon is the goal.
When I set these aside as seconds, they can be purchased for 50% to 75% plus shipping for any weapon that I make. Please email me to see what I may have. Please note that I do not "make" seconds, but you are welcome to have me take a look and see what I may have. I can describe the defect if I can still find the defect, or even email you a picture. I will sell nothing that I feel would not be totally usable, and safe. It would become firewood first.
